Then it looks it was me who misunderstood you. I thought you were 
disagreeing.
In my opinion, on the verge of hitting the big 70 Pynchon can allow himself 
being ironic with virtually everything: the blurb, the title, the excerpt 
(if it was his choosing). Who would sincerely believe that all 992 pages are 
written in this style?
