... Anathallo, a band from Michigan whose songs are
intricate daydreams, at once self-effacing and
confident enough to allow some fragility. They're
changeable structures that might have two tinkling,
overlapping glockenspiels at one point, chiming guitar
chords or a brass section elsewhere.
I can't help being fond of a band that calls a song
"Entropy," explains that it's based on Thomas
Pynchon's novel "The Crying of Lot 49," sets out a
joyful, odd-meter guitar riff that gives way to a
delicate, almost whispered chorus and then, midway
through the song, has band and audience members
blowing up balloons to release them on cue....

I actually stumbled on these guys playing down the
block from me one slow night in the 'hood. Really
something other than else live, at least ...
