Moore might be right about the catalog...but I'm actually not sure what he could mean about there being a general catalog and one for those in the biz. As far as I know, publisher catalogs are, actually, for those in the biz. The Penguin website, on the other hand, would be much more accessible to the general public. And it's true that, so far, Against the Day hasn't shown up there.

that's right--steven moore admits as much that the catalog is not their general one, but one for those in the biz. which leads to why this excerpt was chosen, but i'm really not caring all that much about it, like this tit for tat about the greatest writer in english. in library school we were taught the right book for the right person. pynchon happens to be it for many of us but it's not like it means anything
