Oh, I don't think it's dead. I think it's everywhere, which makes it
much harder for something working within the funny-because-it's-stupid
genre (if you can call it that) to stand out. I admit, I haven't
watched any MST3K since it was on TV, so I don't know how it stands
out, or holds up, but I think that Colbert works in a way other FBS
things don't in that it has much more than just the FBS thing going
for it, it is a multi-layered satirical approach that manages to take
issues that are sad-and-or-scary-because-they-are-true and
funny-because-it's-stupid aspects of them, making  the awful seem
somewhat more bearable. I see a great deal more there than the "old
lady slipping on ice" that Geraldo Rivera seems to think is the modus
operandi of Colbert/Stewart.
