rushdie defends grass

I checked out the Wikipedia site on Grass yesterday, and noticed they had a
pic of his fingerprint card from when he was captured as a POW. My Deutch
is pretty rusty, but it looks to me as if it says on the card that he was
in the Waffen SS. Also indicates that he was in the SS Panzer Division
Frundsberg. I can't imagine this card has been hidden away for the last
sixty years, so someone, somewhere has known about this for quite a while.
Have to wonder why it's all just coming to the surface as an issue now.
