John Hawkes' significance

I've wondered that myself occasionally, what about
Hawkes? I took a "Contmeporary Novels" class or
somesuch, well, a while back now, where we read the
likes of Hawkes, Robbe-Grillet, uh, Burgess ... on the
otehr hand, I only really much first heard about Gass
and, say, Vollmann here ...
But I have noticed nifty new JH eds. out recently ...
