another reason to dislike Banville

Surprised to see TC Boyle taking such a bashing. Is he really that bad a 
person? I don't know much about him, but Budding Prospects was good (if a 
bit heavy on the similies) and I really liked Tortilla Curtain. I also have 
Drop City but haven't got round to it yet.

As far as I can remember, I enjoyed Banville's 'Book of Evidence', but then 
bought 'The Untouchable' and wondered how he managed to make such an 
intersting story so dull. Didn't finish it.

For what it's worth, a writer whose public image irritates me is Chuck 
Palahniuk, with his 'shocking' stories about blokes masturbatring in 
swimming pools, that supposedly have people fainting at readings, and this 
is reported as fact in write-ups in the press. As if you might pass out from 
shock at someone reading a short story. Come on!
