I kind of sensed that in the way that some of Zoyd's adversaries were 
portrayed.   The FBI and Mafia  felt very Right Coast even if Reagan 
was a Californian - kind of.

I think that there may be a certain nostalgia in Vineland for anyone 
of a certain age who lived in proximity to the times or place.  But 
just because you aren't nostalgic for some parts described doesn't 
mean you don't "get it."  There's still quite a lot of story there. 
It's not generally a nostalgia piece.  (lol)
