You have the quote in front of you and then you misquote it. He says there
are four who "deserve our praise," a line-up one might quibble with or add to,
but probably not improve very much. Being praise worthy can mean many things
and it's difficult to know just what he meant. In Pynchon's case, he would
seem to be praising him for tenacity. It's also the sort of thing I could have
imagined Bloom saying. It is not, however "Pynchon is the greatest writer
writing in the English language," which is what was attributed to him and not at
all the same thing and not something I could imagine him saying.
