NP: Yates and Stegner

After having one too many drink last night, I found myself effusively promising a fellow drinker that I'd read Revolutionary Road, by Richard Yates, and Angle of Repose, by Wallace Stegner.  Anyone read either of these books?  Is there any connection between them (other than in the befuddled mind of my drinking buddy)?  Should I give up drinking?  Or reading?
