Other way 'round.  Chandler may be mannered (though I
will admit, I've only read The Big Sleep, and know the
films better than the novel), but Hammett's more of a
stylist.  Meanwhile, my favorite Stones records (and
the only ones I've bothered with on vinyl since I
reconverted; meanwhile, you can't get much more
mannnered than middle-class Mick) are Some Girls,
"Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the
Shadow?,"  "Dandelion" and "2000 Light Years from
Home" ...
