The American system was wrong. The 20th century American system was wrong. The capitalist system was wrong. The industrial system was wrong.  Western civilization was wrong. 
   
  Pynchon never slips into this foolish Lefty-playpens. 
   
  Is it OK to be a Luddite? 
   
  He's a satirist and pragmatist not a revolutionary. He's an advocate of communication. 
   
  It's not that P is preaching MLK or HDT, non-violence as a political movement, but as a practical NY intellectual. Violence is not a practical solution to the problem. In fact, and this is quite clear in VL and M&D, violence only complicates and compounds existing problems and conflicts. 
   
  Kirkpatrick Sale is satirized rather harshly in VL because he's a slave in search of a new master.
