I can't even remember what the initial claim her was,
or who made it, it was perhaps that the Pt. IV
epigraph plus the Zhlubb passages might have been
provoked by Watergate, but, of course, as I pointed
out then and have again noted since, even The Crying
of Lot 49 contains anti-Nixonisms. Despite RMN's, uh,
threat?, Pynchon, among many, many others, still had
Nixon to kick around for over a decade ...
But, again, and again, in all fairness, there was
time, if not for a hundred, at least for a few visions
and revisions, so ...
