Point is, it had become apparent some eight months
BEFORE the publication of Gravity's Rainbow.  Still
doesn't mean that the Nixon refs therein are Watergate
refs, per se--again, as I've emphasized, Pynchon
already takes potshots at Nixon in the Crying of Lot
49--but it DOES leave time for the scandal to have
left its traces in the novel nonetheless.  To be, uh,
fair and accurate ...
