A 1,000 page Shaggy dog allegory will disappoint most readers.
Nice ride, but ....
Where is the Humanity in his talking dogs?
Are his characters simply a snarl of concepts and realites?
Concepts? Universal concepts? Particular ones?
Do his concepts as characters have personal and private thoughts, personal
and private lives?
Or has privacy been erased?
Do P's characters have a core, a being, a consciousness that renders them
unlike anyone else.
Do his characters have American dreams?
Or are they simply animals on an Orwellian stage?
Do they have and do they produce deep emotional responses?
