Concepts as characters (was: Why don't women read Pynchon?)

This long after Gravity's Rainbow, in the context of
the entire pynchonoid corpus, with Pynchon on the
Nobel perennial backlist, I would have hoped that the
need for a separate category called "Pynchon
apologetics" would have withered away by now, but
apparently not. 

It's a tired proposition in the first place, this
thing about well rounded characters that's been gone
over very well in this forum in recent weeks and
fleshed out (heh heh) in quite a few interesting
posts, and still the same refrain pops up, again and
again. My sense is that this is not a search for
answers, but then what do I know.

If that's what it means not to be a fan and to attempt
some critique of Pynchon's' work that somehow has
never been done before on Pynchon-l because all us
fans won't let it happen because we're too blind to
find fault in Pynchon's work or however that story
goes, it strikes me as a pretty lame attempt, frankly,
breathtakingly so. Can't they do better than that if
they're going to take Pynchon apart? 

In the deathless words of the Evildoer-in-chief, Bring
it on!

With textual support, naturally. ;)

And all in the spirit of good fun, scholarly inquiry,
collegial coziness, etcetera etcetera
