Sounds like fun reading, I love that pulpy stuff with
more or less disposable prose - the kind you can just
feel the writer grinding out, just barely dressing up
the ideas and hanging clothes on them, I don't feel so
bad racing through it just for fun, because the ideas
keep me going.

Pynchon's thing is different, the complexity of his
syntax and narrative strategies puts me through a very
different curve before I can see clearly - if ever -
what the ideas might be, in the final analysis. Very
much like life in the sense of having to puzzle
through not only what's really happening and why, then
wondering why it's presenting this way and not
another, only a tad more controlled on the page and in
the brain.  "If it is not the world, it is what the
world might be with a minor adjustment or two.
According to some, this is one of the main purposes of
fiction."
