Where's Pynchon on the Modern Library List?

Thanks for posting this link. While it seems depressing enough that the
Modern Library omitted GR from their list, for whatever reason, the response
by one "Dan" to the Friday column seems much more depressing. He writes:
"I have a degree in English and Philosophy from a top US University, took
classes in culture and literature, postmodernism, the modern American
author, etc. etc., and before the release of Against the Day I had only ever
heard of Pynchon, and never with any more regard than possibly a well-known
science fiction novelist who has a cult following. I still have not felt the
need to read anything by him, and by all accounts I'd not be missing
anything.
Pynchon's status is in no way common-sense. He seems to be an author that
people, for whatever reason (I can't claim to know why, I haven't yet read
anything, although I plan on picking up GR soon) don't talk about unless a
book is being released. He and his work fall off the radar somewhat, except
for the cult following." End of depressing quote.
I wonder which "top US University" he attended (Candlebrow? Lowbrow?) - in
any case, I really hope that "Dan" is just a lazy student who slept through
most of his classes, and that his ignorance isn't a reflection of a general
academic tendency in "top US Universities". Any insiders on the
p-list/fellow cultists who can enlighten us on this matter?
