"STRAY losses 
Not all the magnetic field produced by the primary is intercepted by 
the secondary. A portion of
the leakage flux may induce eddy currents within nearby conductive 
objects, such as the
transformer's support structure, and be converted to heat."

Or alternatively, this is a great metaphor for the response induced in Reef by Webb's murder (the
primary coil).  Who, or what, was the secondary coil that was supposed to pick up the field
induced by the murder and do something with it?
