Sunday Times ATD review

Not sure if it's exclusively British, but it's a hip-hop/garage/grime
term. Bigging something/someone up is basically talking about or
referencing it/them in a wholly positive and respectful light. You hear
it a lot on pirate radio stations, for instance, "big up my man Kode9!"
"big up the east london crew!"... It's very similar to a "shout out",
really.

"Bigging it up" is a phrase I've never heard before. Is this a British
thing?
