"Root signaled the waiter, making broad gestures toward Pleiade. "She gets the check - haar rekening, ja?" "
I took that as the Dutch version 'Rechnung' - ie Deutsch for 'bill', but also literally 'reckoning'; didn't think about the other connotations of the word, but in Kit's case it certainly fits with one of the themes of the whole novel.
Looking it up, it seems to be 'her bill' but I imagine 'her reckoning' too. Nice call there.

Somewhere, I'd say between page 450 and 700, a section ends with a bill being brought to a table where Kit is among a party of revellers, and someone says something along the lines of, "Ah! The reckoning!" although 'reckoning' may be spelt sl;ightly dirrerently. Anyone got the page number to save me trawling back through? Dave Monroe: your mission, should you choose....
In any case, I guess it's a pretty clear reference to Christopher 'Kit'
Marlowe, and his final 'reckoning', eh? BUt is this just one of Pynchon's sly little jokes, or does it point to a greater significance in the naming of this particular member of the Traverse clan?
