There's still an IWW out there -- they're trying to organize Starbucks workers. Other than that, the American union movement is anything but anarchistic. It's controlled from the top by bought-off fat cats who redbait any rank-and-filer who tries to organize on the grassroots level. But, hell, if the guy's hot, go for it!
