I think Sterling's definition is quite good. but, no need to either sever, nor engranidize the FNB crowd with the anarchists of the 18th and 19th centuries. Most of the anarchists that I know are total history dweebs and can cite chapter and verse all kinds of labor history tidbits, not easlily found in history books. though, not given to (too much) idolization, they know who se shoulders they stand on. (that's why their kids ar named emma and Joe Hill.) There is most certainly a relationship.

oh, and that obit on Judy was quite nice. I knew her but, never knew her last name!

a big part of the infrastructure of what what's left

of Christian Charity I can cook up in this gay and
lively season of unbridled consumption, let me note
that most folks I've encountered in Food Not Bombs
are pretty out there, none moreso than Judy Foster:

As co-founder of NROOGD, she's character right out of Against the Day.
Otherwise your critique is right on.
Judy was the real deal.

Ok I'm getting kinda frustrated here with all this talk of abstract
anarchy. Let's be clear: Pynchon is talking about an actual loosely
defined "movement(s)" that actually labeled itself "anarchist" and
actually existed in ways not-so-shockingly-similar to what he
actually describes in the time period he's actually talking about.
This is to be distinguished from food not bombs today
