The best thing to do is contact the List to indicate that you are unable to 
host your section, preferably with sufficient time for someone else to grab 
it and undertake the hosting duties for that week.

When the discussion drops, that's usually when the flame wars result.  Lack 
of good discussion topics during hosting usually leaves us open to someone 
bringing up Playboy Japan, the Holocaust, Keith's underwear, the "shitty 
short stories," something on someone's lip, and other wounds rubbed raw over 
the years.
