ATD verdict?

Allright, then. Here is my ranking, based on secret Scientifick principles:

GR - "Wow, [...] holy shit. Surely I hallucinate," and other such eager
junior sidekick talk. - Can't be surpassed.

Lot 49 - the equal of condensed gems like Heart of Darkness, The Great
Gatsby etc.

AtD and V. - both uneven books, but the (frequent) brilliant parts make them
better than:

M&D and Vineland - I deeply love both books, but in such impressive company
they belong to the bottom of my list.

I agree with one of the previous posters who argued that AtD is a better
book when considered as a part of Pynchon's complete oeuvre rather than a
self-contained novel. I would never recommend it as the place to start
reading Pynchon, but as a companion to the other novels, especially M&D and
GR, it is absolutely perfect, and I for one couldn't have hoped for more.
But you know, John: one can't make such a query without revealing one's own
list: so out with your secret ranking!

>Disaster? Wha?
