ATD verdict?

I'm not past page 200 yet, so my response is not fully informed. I
know that some have said that the book improves or starts pulling
together (or something) after the first 250 pages. But in general I
find the writing has a "laid back"feel to it, meaning it never gets
too intense or excited (like GR did). There's lots of poetic prose,
which we know Pynchon is a master of, but sometimes I feel it's being
deployed without focus, almost as if there's too much of it (I guess
some might say that about the whole book), and that it's used in
places where it's not adding anything but floridity.

There are episodes that stand out, but I'll wait for the episodes to
reach the group schedule before I discuss them
