I have no idea what Pynchon did at any time in his life.  (There's 
not been a whole lot reported.)  (g)  Those are his words taken from 
the Introduction to Slow Learner (see pg.  10) probably  written in 
about 1984 or a bit earlier.  That's about a decade after GR and 
about 5 years prior to Vineland.
