I recall that it is the same Peaches and that Sam Peach had helped Mason 
earlier in his career.  Mason imagines an exchange with his father (p208) 
in which Mason is told that he will not like the price he must pay to Sam 
Peach when it falls due. 

Stufato seems to be an Italian word for stew.
