Four Modes of Listening in Psychotherapy

Spitz believes that the dormant coenesthetic
 communication system in adults,
while basically replaced by the sensory mode,
 can be normally activated,
for example by pregnant mothers and mothers of
 newborns,
and by certain people such as artists.

M*? and Camp's paper on metaphor sent me surfing her, and I found:

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~ecamp/Papers/%20generalityPQ.pdf
Demonstratives and names can fail to secure referents, and thereby generate the mere illusion of thought.

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~ecamp/Papers/ECampGC&AnmlCog.pdf
"Proto-thought is distinguished from full-fledged thought...
by its incapacity for detachment from present circumstances...
An animal may solve quite complex problems by a process of thinking about the solution...
but its thought, or more exactly, proto-thought, cannot float free
but can occur only as integrated with current activity"

The question we need to settle now, though, is how to distinguish lack of
interest in a thought from a genuine inability to think it.

For instance, when humans are confronted with absurd thoughts,
we can explain why they must be false, by pointing out their absurd consequences.
This is precisely the sort of ability that the bees don't have, however.
They can do absolutely only one thing with the thought: ignore it.
But in the absence of an ability to do anything at all with a thought, I suggest,
the distinction between mere lack of interest and genuine inability is entirely empty.

For a creature to understand the possibility that a belief is false,
it must understand that the world might not be that way.
And in order to do this,
it must have a relatively independent grasp on what the 'way' in question is.
However, we still find the same fundamental problem here:
a creature can only appreciate the possibility of error
for thoughts that it is already capable of entertaining.

See, I would bring her thinking to bear on religion:
Exoteric religion, lacking the AF/AC referent of it,
war against each other's uninformed interpretations.
