Yes, the Kathe Kollwitz chapter was great! I felt inferior reading the Shostakovich bits because I didn't know the pieces he was talking about. Perhaps if I listen to them I can finish the novel...
Finished "Group Portrait with Lady" in English and liked it a lot. Would like to read it in German sometime... but "Die Verlorene Ehre" has arrived aus Deutschland and is comfortingly thin.
On page 200 of Mason & Dixon, the phrase "Oh, Be a Friendly Girl, Kiss me Right Now Sweet-heart" crops up. I've been wondering if on Mason's return to his home, the different characters in the chapter might relate to the different types of stars (ie, they are "the stars in his sky") - there seem to be around the right number...there might even be a way to include the bread
