Advance copy

I am just wondering when the advance copies of TRP's new opus might appear 
and who will be the lucky few ones to get them. As I know virtually nothing 
about this practice, could you share with your experience on this count? 
Have you ever received such a copy from ANY writer? I do not think that the 
target audience is always limited to editors and prominent literary critics, 
there should be some space allocated to ordinary readers.
