A New Pynchon Novel named.....
...._Pinch & Swallow_......in which critically acclaimed author Thomas Pynchon skillfully and comically juxtaposes his well-known aversion to porcine cuisine against a love story set in the Chicago stockyards, during the 1898 World Exposition; as well as in the world of higher mathematics study in Gottingen, Germany.
University of Chicago mathematics student Helen Abbot Merrill laments having to leave her lover, a butcher in the stockyards (whose half-brother may (or may not) be a serially-killing, sexually deviant psychopath) to travel to Germany for a once in a lifetime opportunity to study with the reknown mathematician David Hilbert. Once in Germany, she once again falls in love, but, appalled by the similarities between graduate level math studies and the stockyards, she returns to her beloved swine-butcher and devotes herself to promoting vegetarianism; teaching mathematics to women; and promoting women's suffrage. Predictable hijinx ensue. A laugh-packed 992 pages short.
                                                                  truly,
                                                                  ruud
