True enough.  The incident is described in (among other places, I'm sure) Nick Mason's Inside Out.  Nick included in the book a photo of Syd taken during the visit.  It's a sad photo.  Made (and makes) me wonder what the hell the poor guy was going through.  I'll send a scan of it to anyone who asks, off-list.

Apparently, he turned up unexpectedly at the recording session for "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and they didn't even recognize him. The song is allegedly about him.
