I just read the chapter. it would appear that Chicago 1893 represents the
point of the dynamo's birth, adopting gold as sole meaure of wealth, the
standard, a unifier of force, if you will. all that's left is how far and
how long, pornographies of flight, no doubt. he voting for silver, is alas,
on the losing side, just like his family class's way of life

I wonder what Adams is talking about when he refers to the 'Northwest'--is
this code for Chicago?

what's amazing about it is Adam's view of the whole thing as the natural
step (skipping over that chasm as he puts it) the process is--no anger or
much bitterness--the way of the dynamo-it just is.
