Absolutely no one that I know of (and I know of quite
a few ...) either claimed that as or mistook that for
Pynchon's own page.  There are hundreds to thousands
(to ...) of pages for characters (not to mention
objects, brands, concepts, et al.) both fictional and
real, typically put up by fans, and it's generally
well understood that these are not "official" pages. 
Nor do I know of anyone who believed that photo,
though I can't reall what claims were made for it, and
by whom ...
