Perhaps, but remember that the preceeding sentence in the blurb is:
" [...] With a worldwide disaster looming just a few years ahead, it is a time of unrestrained corporate greed, false religiosity, moronic fecklessness, and evil intent in high places [...]"
which, of course, resonates with post 9/11 zeitgeist and might just be his coy way of evoking the present.
I'm most interested in his use of "just a few years ahead," which I presume is understatement. But again, we'll see when the book comes out, right?
Might explain that rather odd "No reference to the PRESENT day is intended or should be inferred."
