>Pynchonesque. And a nod to Twain, as was pointed out.
Now praising the text he was dissing only moments ago.
Sweet.
>From the Book Description, it might seem that Pynchon
is trying to help readers set up some expectations as
they look forward to the novel, pointing to specific
elements that he must know will be more or less
immediately familiar to readers of his books plus
stuff that can be researched instantly on the Internet
(Tunguska).
Next thing you know, the novel itself will have an
Introduction over the Thomas Pynchon byline.
I'm guessing the chattiness carries over from his
recent interviews with journalists - Positively 4th
Street, the Playboy Japan article, others we don't
know about yet. I wouldn't expect an author tour for
the new novel, but wouldn't be surprised to see an
interview with him somewhere between now and December,
in addition to the usual essay(s) in the New York
Times addressing topics that will be found later in
the new novel. And, there are still those rumors out
there about the interview that he pulled out of at the
last minute when M&D was published.
