The notion of an "ordinary" Pynchon reader aside ...

Maybe y'all don't tend to cary a couple/halfdozen
books around with you nearly everywhere you go. I was
very glad to have remaindered copies of the pbk.
available most everywhere I went when last we "did"
M&D ...

Keep in mind, no one's paying royalties even to the
Joyce estate anymore, whilst I' imagine everyobody
involved has made their money several times over, so
... well, such works are essentially being milked as
cash cows, for whatever what might be left in 'em ...

That being said, and inasmuch as I'm all for
supporting yr independent book dealer et al., amazon
does have a very good price on ATD ($22 vs. $35; add
in $3 or more and get free shipping). I imagine B&N
online will have a similar discount. Though here, at
least, some indie shops will as a rule discount, say,
noteworthy new titles, NY Times Top whatever
bestsellers, et al. AND it's St. Nicholas Day, with
Christmas approaching, so there's always that angle to
play if you celebrate ...

Me, having gotten that centenary ed. of 1984
apparently before anyone else who bothered to post
about it here, I preordered it @ amazon, but if it
DOESN'T show up by/on that day (or I haven't scored an
advance copy),I'll no doubt rush out and get another
anyway, and give the other as a gift. Or keep it as a
clean copy ...
