The "slothrop character" is Robert Forster from the sadly missed 
Australian pop band The Go-Betweens (trust Robert Christgau and Jonathan 
Lethem on their greatness). Forster prefers Joyce to Pynchon, which 
might explain the relatively poor quality of the song.

"Prüfstand 7" has many interesting aspects, but my viewing pleasure was 
seriously diminished by director Robert Bramkamp's own free-associative 
riffs on GR.
