Devil's advocate in Slate comments

[Ghetta Life]

Cryptonomicon might be "smart," but the writing is generally dreadful.  I 
couldn't take it past about 2/3's in.  Stephenson is writes really poor 
prose.  Pynchon's prose is often fabulously beautiful.
