 Nah, I could never be as wise or well-read as you. In fact I haven't  
actually read Herzog or Humboldt's Gift either, I just looked on Amazon to see which 
Bellow books get 5 star reviews. >>

Perhaps you did just that, or maybe you actually read the books, but you made 
a categorical dismissal of what--a half dozen books--that is way off base, 
and repeated about Bellow a pat criticism--that he's a conservative, which he 
may or may not be--based on his affiliation with the University of Chicago, but 
which doesn't color his fiction.  So, yes, I suspect you didn't read the books.
