According to John Krafft, editor of Pynchon Notes, when one of the NY 
regulars from this list rang Melanie Jackson (Pynchon's wife and agent) 
to ask about this, she flatly denied that Pynchon had given the 
interview. The denial she gave him was hushed up here for upwards of a 
year because that wasn't the answer the person who made the call wanted 
to hear. It's old news now.
