I mentioned this book as well a week or so ago and, if it turns out to be 
true that the mine troubles in the northwest are part of what Pynchon writes 
about, this would be a very good book to read.

It's also, like Pynchon's writing, dense, detailed, somewhat rambling and 
baggy, and well-written.  A good fit, I think, for the list.
