Personally, I really enjoy Ryu Murakami in translation. He is
kinda dark and decadent, but lots of fun with odd splashes of
humor scattered about his texts. Supposedly, there is some
excellent science fiction and horror written in Japan, but I
am not familiar with any authors/books. Read a bit of Haruki
Murakami, who seems to be slightly popular, but he bored me
unto sleep. Hope Ryu Murakami releases something new in
english translation soon.....his latest, In the Miso Soup, was
an enjoyable read, imo.

And no, Ryu and Haruki are NOT related.
