Something to consider....

I have no idea what kind of money Pynchon has made from his writing...
I mean he had that grant that was, what, $50,000 a year for five
years? I imagine that he's not getting an incredible amount on
royalties considering what is now his probably rather small market,
except for maybe college courses with Lot 49 as one of the required
texts...

I wonder if he took / is going to take a more active hand in the
marketing for the new book because of this? I doubt he's about to go
broke any time soon... I don't think I understand how much writers
generally get paid. For example, Jonathan Lethem is a pretty
wide-spread name, but he still goes on book reading tours and such,
and I wonder if it's because he has to or because he wants to, and
then again, Tony Vigoritto has published only one book as far as I am
aware (Just a Couple of Days) and I haven't heard anything out of him
other than that, now he has a second book out and he's saying he's
going to be able to focus solely on writing now without another source
of income. So, I don't know. And perhaps it's rude to consider
(since Pynchon's monetary status is none of my goddamn business,
really).
