Cease-fire

If you don't mind my asking (I'm an interested party, after
all), though I don't want to sound like a prig, can everybody
please lay off Rob? I was annoyed with him the other day, and
we still haven't resolved our differences. But the attacks on
him here have been so virulent that they have me squirming. I'm
sorry if I helped bring this down on him. We have been
thrashing out our differences off list, which is maybe where I
should have started (maybe I'll regret posting this too). One
thing I'll say for rob: he hasn't struck back on the list. More
people should show such restraint, wisdom and decency. I may
have been too severe with him. (I wasn't even sure he was the
person I was annoyed with; I don't know that he put the passage
into the Wikipedia article that I wanted not to be associated
with, so I didn't name him anyway.) Unlike some other posters
to the list, I don't think I have ever accused Rob of being
dishonorable or dishonest. If I seem to have done so, I'm
sorry. As for my original complaint, my sense (and it isn't
necessarily Rob's own; he sees me as the one at fault--and no,
that's not my subtle way of encouraging people to go after him
all the more) is that what happened was an honest lapse of a
kind I myself have been guilty of. so, again, how about we stop
beating up on each other?
