Desperately seeking subtext

Well, above (I assume) irony aside, I think we may be able to empathize  
here: if you were jbor, & there were at least a substantial number of other  
P-listers proposing we forgive & forget & move on, wouldn't that be what  would you 
would do?! Rather than say ANYthing relating to the controversial  topic 
which, no matter how apologetic, would likely cause the snake to re-emerge  out of 
the can?
