Yes, even though the blurb has now been fairly well established as 'official' or 'genuine', it still presents a few puzzles. 
Who knows, maybe Pynchon just approved it rather than actually writing it himself. And if he did write it, did he give it much thought or just dash it off, can we be sure he's playing completely straight, is he aware that people like us may well go off and research such subjects as Chicago, WWI, Tesla etc., is there maybe the odd red herring?
