this is one of the coolest parts in the book!
there are probably all kinds of literary references being made and antecedents being played with, but it's also one heck of a narrative passage...
partial list of magical things so far:
Learned English Dog
The Ear
the clock
flying the Ley Lines
the inhabitants of the Eleven Days
Mason's wife talking to him from the Afterlife
Lud Oafery (rereading that passage it finally sunk in: for 3 days a month he's a fop, the rest of the time a wolf! It's the 3 days that bother his Mum!)
The Duck
and now the Tub...
it reminds me so much of certain pixilated things I've done and seen done with friends at various house parties and other venues and haunts over the years
