I've described Cryptonomicon, at least, as Pynchon
lite, mass market Pynchon, whatever.  But not only are
they in different solar systems, they operate by
different laws of physics.  There's a quantum foam
roiling "under"--or, at any rate, around--Pynchon that
makes Stephenson look positively Newtonian, if not
quite Ptolemaic ...
